What if your house was constantly working to improve your happiness and wellbeing?
We design and build houses with that singular purpose.
We believe that the design of a house can have a real, daily impact on its occupants’ wellbeing.
And research has proven it.
Our approach is evidence-based — we analyze the best architecture, psychology and sociology research to understand how the design of a house can help its occupants thrive.
This process has helped us identify two primary design themes: connection to nature and simplicity of form. These principles guide everything we do and reveal design elements that can actually enhance life at home. We are hyper-focused on their implementation.
“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.”
Connection to Nature
Thousands of studies have established the importance of connecting with nature. Importantly, the connection doesn't require a 6-month nomad experience with arctic wolves. Studies have shown that views of nature through windows, gardening and abundant natural light can have the same impact. To implement this concept, our houses are designed for occupants to bask in natural light, natural air and natural things.
Natural Light
The best light source is the sun. Abundant natural light has myriad benefits, including boosting mood, improving sleep, benefiting vision and increasing productivity.
We capture as much natural light as possible through expansive windows, well-placed skylights and purposeful orientation.
Natural Air
Breathe deep. Clean, well-circulated air is crucial to a home as it regulates temperature, removes impurities, prevents mold and makes the space feel energized and alive.
We design for maximum cross-ventilation and employ HVAC systems that circulate filtered air constantly.
Natural Things
Bring outside inside. A home filled with natural things is calming, beautiful and invigorating.
We celebrate natural things by purposefully designing for all living things to thrive, and by featuring natural materials in key design elements. We connect living spaces and outdoor spaces so the natural world can be ever-present.
Simplicity of Form
Much has been documented about the benefits of simplicity and the detriments of complexity. We believe that embracing a home with a simple form can magnify the benefits of a simple life. A simple architectural form removes the nonessential and emphasizes the fundamental. Being free of the cost, maintenance and clutter of ornamentation allows occupants to focus on the truly essential parts of home and life.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
